Tim Tate

Tate is the co-founder, creative director and marketing director of the Washington Glass School. He is a sculptor who has been working in glass, steel, concrete and ceramic since 1989. He oversaw a glass casting production studio in New Orleans for three years.

Tate’s sculptural pieces combine glassmaking and modern technologies such as, motion detectors, original software, speakers, custom chips and cameras, as well as video. Tate’s work has had extensive national and international exposure and is featured in many museum collections, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Mint Museum, the University of Richmond Art Museum and the University of Virginia Art Museum. He is a past winner of the Mayor’s Arts Award for Outstanding Washington DC Emerging Artist of the Year. Mr. Tate won the worldwide competition to design the International AIDS Monument in New Orleans, which was formally opened last November.
